The meter opened at zero on the eleventh of June and reached five hundred on the twentieth, at one minute past one in the morning. Eight days. The Age closed while most of them were asleep. No announcement was made. The number was the announcement.
THE RECORD
The crossing was not the first publication and not the first player action. It was the first threshold the new meter could close. Close to a year of earlier records remained on the other side of zero. See THE YEAR OF SILENCE, ⟡004.
The first full day after the meter opened returned one hundred and twenty-two proofs. See THE FIRST DAY, ⟡002. No later announcement was inserted into the archive to make the ending cleaner.
CARRIED FORWARD
The first Age ended without a witness standing at the meter. The exact hand that moved it from four hundred and ninety-nine is not designated.
