NOISE IS STILL A SIGNAL

The first round of Act II asked for one word. Comment YES. Nothing was offered for it. No prize, no reason, no account of what YES agreed to. By the fourth attempt the rule had hardened: YES, once, repeated entries discarded. The round asked for the cheapest act a stranger can perform in public, and asked for it exactly.

The room took four days to do one word correctly.

The thread that carried it holds 154,480 written responses from 113,180 distinct hands, the largest crowd the game has held. 101,709 of them are the word YES and nothing else. 46,970 ignored the instruction and wrote anyway.

Ten minutes in, a player named urfavv.ronak answered the largest round on record with a refusal: Nuh uh, and a chair. The room lifted it to 3,151 likes, above every obedient entry. Only the rules post stood higher.

The same instruction failed three times and then passed, unchanged. The crowd never needed the rule explained. It needed the rule to become the obvious move, and repetition made it so.

And while two thirds of the room complied, the room crowned the one refusal. The same hands that obeyed voted the disobedience to the top. The record holds both acts, by the same crowd, in the same hour, and does not reconcile them.

Passed on the fourth attempt, at a scale no round since has matched. Two thirds of a crowd of one hundred thousand did a small exact thing for no stated reason.

Entered after the round: participation is cheap, precision is dear, and repetition buys precision.

Also entered, against the round: 46,970 off-rule responses still counted as activity to the machines of the first ground, so the same thread reads as triumph or failure depending on which number is quoted. The record prints both.

Every round after this one narrows the instruction until exactness itself is the thing being measured. By the fifth round of Level 2, one wrong character costs the whole wall.

The refusal is kept on the record beside the compliance. The game had use for both.
