Classification: fauna, domesticated. Lives in pairs or between a traveler and an institution.You are on day 412. You no longer remember what day 1 was for. Tonight you are tired, the person on the other end is someone you have not otherwise spoken to in a year, and at 11:52pm you send a photograph of a ceiling so the number can become 413. The animal is fed. You feel the small wrong relief of it.The Streak is a number that eats one day at a time and dies if skipped once. Its biology runs on a documented asymmetry: losses weigh roughly twice as much as equivalent gains in human accounting, so a 412-day possession hurts more to lose than 412 single days ever felt to win. The platforms know the animal's value. At least one sells insurance against its death, by the name streak freeze, and travelers buy it, which means the territory has produced a market in the continued life of a number.The Atlas notes what the Streak actually stores. Not affection, which survives skipped days. Not habit, which needs no witness. The Streak stores continuity itself, made visible, and the territory has learned that visible continuity will be defended by travelers who can no longer say what it continues.LAW.
