Classification: fauna, domesticated, parasitic tendency. Lives on the traveler. Answers to the platform.Your leg buzzed. Your phone was on the table, face down, and your leg buzzed anyway, and your hand moved before the fact could be checked. Phantom vibration is documented in the field literature: a majority of surveyed travelers report feeling the animal move when the animal was not there. The body has learned the species so thoroughly that it now generates specimens on its own.The Notification was bred for one trait: it is delivered identically regardless of what it carries. A stranger liked a photograph, and a family member is in trouble, and a subscription is expiring, and the animal announces all three with the same red mark, the same sound, the same interruption authority. The uniformity is not sloppiness. An animal whose importance could be judged from a distance would be an animal the traveler could ignore, and its keepers, who are the platforms and not the traveler, selected against that trait generations ago.Field guidance exists inside the territory's own settings, where the animal can be muted by species, by hour, or entirely. Uptake is low. The recorded reason, in the travelers' own words, is the fear of missing the one that matters, which is precisely the fear the uniform announcement was bred to protect.LAW. The Notification cannot tell news from noise. Its host, over time, loses the same ability, in the same direction.See: THE PULL (weather, entry 02). THE FEED (weather, entry 01).
