Classification: recurring event, summoned. Forms wherever a visible answer becomes easier to repeat than a private answer is to invent.

FIELD OBSERVATION

The instruction asks for one word. The first answer is YES. The second is YES. By the time you arrive, the column is already a wall. You had another word before you opened it. You file YES. The word becomes one line longer and one person less attributable.

No one hand made the sound you are now hearing.

MECHANISM

A public response changes the environment for the next response. Large randomized experiments have shown that an early positive rating can increase the chance of another positive rating and leave the final aggregate higher. Comment experiments find a related effect: a unanimous visible opinion can move later readers toward it. The Chorus does not require agreement in private. It requires a safe, legible next move in public.

The institution has observed the event at scale. In its comment corpus dated the twenty-eighth of August, 2026, 128,883 enriched response records carry YES as their trigger word. Across the enriched corpus, 489,331 of 676,290 responses are marked near-duplicates. Most of the largest walls were summoned by an instruction. That distinction matters. A crowd that was asked to repeat is not evidence of a crowd unable to think.

LAW

A Chorus is made of individual voices using the same available word. The sameness is real. The reasons remain separate and off-record.
